Challenge
During a port call, a welded stainless steel tube in the technical water system cracked on a marine vessel. Immediate repair was required for the vessel to depart on schedule. Access to the damaged section was restricted — the pipe ran in a tight space below the engine room ceiling.
TMT Solution
In emergency mode, we removed the damaged section of welded stainless tube and replaced it with a high-pressure hydraulic hose with crimped fittings. We simultaneously replaced the ball valve with a new AISI 316 stainless steel unit. The temporary solution was designed to last until the planned dry dock survey.
Result
We completed the repair within 6 hours of notification. The vessel departed on schedule. The installation operated without failure until the planned survey, during which a permanent TIG-welded stainless steel pipe was installed.
