Challenge
A special-purpose machine manufacturer needed centering cones for CNC lathe tooling. The components had to ensure workpiece centering repeatability with runout below 0.005 mm. A batch of 20 pieces with full interchangeability between workstations was required.
TMT Solution
We machined the cones from NC6 tool steel hardened to 58 HRC. Rough turning on CNC lathe, followed by cone grinding on an internal grinder with angle verification on a profile projector. Each cone underwent CMM measurement before batch acceptance.
Result
The entire batch of 20 pieces achieved runout tolerance of 0.003 mm — below the required threshold. The client confirmed full interchangeability between workstations and placed a framework order for 60 additional pieces over the year.
